While traveling in Mexico, our heroine, a beautiful young woman originally from Texas but with a Mexican mother, met a group of people with whom she cohabited.
The group consisted of three men and two women: Alfonso, Fernando, Pedro, Juanita and Rosa.
The atmosphere was good and everyone seemed to get along. We ate together and went out together.
Yolanda was discovering a more sympathetic side of Mexico, and it made her nostalgic for her mother, originally from this beautiful part of the world, where she had come to spend a few vacations.
When it came to politics, the tone sometimes became heated, as everyone wanted to put forward their own opinion. Yolanda preferred to stay out of it and remain neutral.
On one occasion, Fernando, who thought he was the American President, was shouted down by Pedro, who saw the barrier that had to be erected to prevent the flow of illegal immigrants as an insult to Mexican honor. Alfonso listened and didn't interfere.
It was at this point that Juanita stepped in and shouted:
-You, Alfonso, don't say anything because you work for the INS, but think of all the needy people who want to earn a living in the United States.
- You're in no position to talk, Juanita, because as a lawyer, many of these people end up being your clients.
-Let's change the subject and think about the Mariachis we're going to see tonight," said Rosa, who until now had remained rather silent.

At around 10 o'clock this morning, our heroine, Yolanda, calls her father-in-law Oscar, who is also her guardian, her mother having died three years ago, leaving her a large inheritance. Her notary Manuel will start procedures in due course. Oscar has taken care of her and even paid for the trip. She told him that she would be taking the 5 p.m. flight from Monterrey and would be at his house by 8 p.m. When she arrived at Oscar's house at 8 p.m., patrol cars were all around.
When she arrived at Oscar's house at 8 p.m., there were patrol cars all around. She was worried and asked the police what was going on. She identified herself and was let in.
She discovers Oscar dead. Officer Octavio Smith speaks to her and, after a few minutes, arrests her as a suspect in the crime.
But what happened?
Earlier, in Monterey, Yolanda had told her story and Oscar's existence. Alfonso, who cared about her, explained that she had to get rid of her father-in-law, because sooner or later he would cause her trouble. He finally convinced her.
He gave her a few bottles of beer to take to Oscar as a present. These were fake, as Alfonso had poisoned them.
Yolanda didn't take the 5 p.m. flight, but rather the 3 p.m. one. By 6 p.m., she was at Oscar's house, where she found him fit and happy to see her. She saw in him, however, a competitor to Alfonso, for whom she was beginning to have a certain taste.
She has no idea that the beers are poisoned, although Alphonso tells her: "Give her the beers and you'll see, we'll get rid of them". She leaves him the bottles and tells him she'll be back later.
In fact, she went back to the airport, waited an hour and made the same journey again. While she was in Mexico, she discovered a new perfume, a little strong but she liked it.
What she doesn't tell anyone is that she and Oscar were lovers. He wanted her very much.
So at 6 p.m., when she first arrived, she jumped on his neck and they made passionate love. They hadn't seen each other for two weeks.
At 8 p.m., on her second visit, the bed was still unmade and you could sense that there had been some amorous debates.
Octavio Smith, with his fine nose, picked up the scent in the air, the same scent he smelled on contact with Yolanda when she arrived. That was enough to stop her.
But what was the motive?
What advantage did Yolanda have in seeing Oscar dead? Perhaps it would favor Alfonso?
THINKING ABOUT DEVELOPING A SEQUEL
Alfonso works for the INS. He's been arresting illegal Mexican immigrants, including Oscar's brother. Oscar's brother has a price on his head and has sworn to avenge his brother. Alfonso knew this and had to act quickly to prevent Oscar from shooting him. This same Alfonso, when he first met Yolanda, researched her and discovered her contact details. The coincidence was too good to pass up, so he fell in love with her, and the rest is history.
The autopsy reveals poison ingested in the beer. The case against Yolanda is more serious. Will she denounce Alfonso to save herself?
The police investigate the origin of the poison and discover that it comes from Mexico. And that's where Yolanda comes from. The investigation continues with the beer manufacturers. According to the code on the bottles, they were able to identify the city where they were sold, the same city where Yolanda was, i.e. Monterrey. The plot thickens. All the while, Alfonso remains in the shadows. At one point, Yolanda couldn't take it anymore and called him.
That's what the police were waiting for. They track him down and ask him what connection there is between them. The same question was put to her to compare answers. They don't corroborate.
Doubts grew and so did the investigation. Yolanda is incarcerated. And so is Alfonso, but in a different prison.
One day, she receives a visit from Juanita, one of the people she lived with in Monterrey. She tells her that Alfonso has just been arrested and nobody knows why. It was while trying to find her at home that she learned she was in prison. She offers to act as his lawyer and asks him to tell her everything.
Yolanda hesitated. She remembered that during her stay in Monterrey, Juanita had more eyes for Alfonso than she had for herself tried to steal from him. So it's because he's been arrested that she wants to do everything she can to get him back, while Yolanda remains in jail. So why should she defend her? She lies to him, telling him that she already has a lawyer and that she thanks her for her help. Juanita isn't convinced. She suspects she's hiding something.
Octavio Smith doesn't understand why Yolanda insists on protecting Alfonso. The investigation revealed that he was active in the INS, that he had arrested Oscar's brother, that animosity existed between them and that the motive was there to justify the assassination, so he became the prime suspect. But why did Yolanda act as she did?
With this in mind, Manuel, the notary, turns up to tell Yolanda that, since Oscar is no longer there to look after her assets, she has to take charge of everything, and since she's in prison, the state will do so until she's released. She asked him to find a lawyer to whom she could tell everything. She knew the notary, a long-standing friend of her mother's, a sort of uncle. She decided to take him into her confidence to get his opinion.
What she didn't know was that he was Oscar's close friend, that he knew about their union and that he would have liked to avenge his friend by going after Alfonso.
Octavio now knows that Yolanda is beautiful and rich.
He's still a bachelor and wonders if he shouldn't go about it differently and try to please her.
She has few resources and seems confused.
Little by little, he dangles the prospect of helping her out with a little information.
She rebels. He has to change his tune and asks her:
-If you were going out today, what would you do right now?
- I'd take a nice shower," was her reply.
- He laughed, insinuating, "I'd love to take one with you.
- Let's be serious," he said.
- I'll go and see Alfonso and ask for his version.
- We've asked him and it doesn't match yours.
- Yes, but he'll tell me the truth.
Meanwhile, by a curious coincidence, Oscar's brother Juan, who had been arrested by Alfonso, found himself in the same prison as Alfonso. The rumor mill is in an uproar.
They bump into each other in the refectory, and Juan announces that he's going to do him in. The guards get involved, as they can easily imagine what will happen. Alfonso fears for his life and asks to be transferred.
Two weeks later, the transfer takes place. Four guards take him away in a police truck, two sitting in the front and two with him in the box. The guards, paid by Juan, choke and strangle Alfonso. On arrival, they tell the other two that he has had a heart attack and that they were unable to save him.
save.
(??study the possibility of another way of eliminating Alfonso to make it more acceptable)
As the truck left the prison, Yolanda arrived accompanied by Octavio, who wanted to show her good faith in letting her communicate with Alfonso to extract some additional information and help him find the motive for the crime.
The situation is explained to them, namely that Alfonso has been transferred because of threats to his life made by Oscar's brother Juan. Octavio doesn't have time to take Yolanda to the new prison and suggests that he take her tomorrow.
That evening on the news, Alfonso's death was announced as accidental. Octavio hurriedly called Yolanda, informed her of what he had just learned and asked to see her. Once together, the two can't believe what has just happened.
The two are seated on opposite sides of a small table in the kitchen. He speaks tenderly to her, understanding that she has lost someone she loved and would have loved to help. He takes her hands in his, squeezes them and looks into her eyes.
It's the first time he's done this. He had the courage to reveal his feelings a little, but he knew he couldn't go too fast. Curiously, she lets him and doesn't remove her hands from his. He looks for a few soft words to say to her, and it's in a whisper that he announces
- Yolanda, I've gotten to know you over the last few days, and I'm saddened by what's happening, because you don't deserve this fate. I'd like to stay by your side to help you overcome this tragedy. Rest assured that you have a friend in me and I'm sorry I ever suspected you. Can you confide in me?
- Thank you Octavio for wanting to help me. I'm still a bit confused. Give me some time to recover.
- Perfect! Now it's up to us to decide how much we want to accept the prison's version of Alfonso's death, because remember, there's always that Juan guy who would have something to say about it.
- By the way, I haven't told you about this Juanita.
-
And Yolanda recounts the Mexican adventure and Juanita's interest in Alfonso. She offered to act as her lawyer, but doubts her sincerity. Octavio offers to investigate her and will tell her what he has found. He adds: - There remains one salient fact, one that we must identify without Oscar's killer. All right, the beer poisoned him and you brought it in. But you say it was Alfonso who gave it to you, suggesting you give it to Oscar. That makes sense if I take your word for it.
- Yes, believe me Octavio, that's exactly what happened.
Meanwhile, the notary Manuel, in his beautiful apartment overlooking the valley, is in the bath with none other than Juanita. Juanita is his mistress. She was the one who planned Yolanda's trip to Mexico. She knew that Manuel and Oscar were friends. In this case, everyone has lost a loved one.
On the one hand, Manuel would have liked to avenge Oscar, which seems to have happened now that Alfonso is gone, but on the other, Juanita would like to avenge Alfonso and would like to go after Juan, who remains the prime suspect. But it's difficult to get to Juan, as he's already in prison.
Juanita, lawyer that she is, foresees that Oscar's estate will be divided, with one part going to his daughter and the other to his brother. She devises plans to use Juan's share and pay people to eliminate him in prison. She asks Manuel to let her represent Juan in court in the matter of the estate. Manuel, who hasn't seen her game, agrees to her request.
The following week, in his investigation of Juanita, Octavio learns that she is Juan's lawyer in the estate case. He informs Yolanda, who does not take kindly to this.
With Alfonso's death, Octavio suggests closing the case and releasing Juan.
